This association brings together more than 80 centres from across the five continents and among their goals features that of promoting collaboration between the different performance centres in order to generate initiatives that benefit sport, the athletes and society in general.

The Forum will take place from the 8th to the 11th of October and is a meeting point to propose shared ideas and establish channels of communication and mutual collaboration between the different high-performance centres around the world.

Goldschmidt 2019

The main annual conference about geochemistry and related matters, known as GOLDSCHMIDT 2019, will be taking place this year in Barcelona. Organised by the European Association of Geochemistry and the Geochemistry Society, it will fill Barcelona from the 18thto 23rdof August with the expected 4,000 delegates. Behind the decision to choose Barcelona has been our ambassador Joan Martí Molist, recognised volcanologist, doctor in Geology at the University of Barcelona and researcher at the CSIC. The professional conferences will be held in the International Convention Centre of Barcelona (CCIB) and in the plenary sessions there will be debates about the Earth’s lithosphere; the relationship between minerals and energy in high-tech societies; magmas and volcanoes; the climate of the past, present and future; chemistry of the oceans and the atmosphere; biochemistry of contaminants, etc.

The organising bodies are very concerned about the environmental impact of the conference and for this reason have taken diverse measures to minimise the carbon emissions, waste and contaminants.

Experience with the Ambassadors Programme

Antoni Torrens i Jover – European Federation for Medicinal Chemistry (EFMC)

It was a very positive experience for me taking part in the Associative FamTrip of the Catalunya Convention Bureau in May 2019. It was a very productive trip and perfectly organised. As a member of the Ambassadors Programme I would like to be able to organise a congress in Catalonia with the support of the CCB. The European Federation for Medicinal Chemistry (EFMC), of which I am Treasurer and member of the Executive Committee, represents 25 European countries and more than 7,500 researchers and organises two congresses every year, distributed across Europe. What I have seen and experienced on this trip around Catalonia has enabled me to confirm that we have great infrastructures, modern facilities and an excellent tourist and congress offer, and not only in Barcelona, but also in other areas such as Tarragona, Reus, Sitges, Lleida, Cardona, Girona and Lloret-Costa Brava. If to all this we add teams of people who are very capable, professional, cordial and with a profile clearly directed at the client, then the offer becomes even more attractive.

Meritxell Teixidó – Universitat Autònoma of Barcelona (UAB)

Just a year ago I came to form part of the Ambassadors Programme. An experience with which, at the hand of the Catalunya Convention Bureau, I have been able to know better the potential of the Catalunya brand for the organisation of events on a world scale. I feel our tradition and culture, a key ingredient that I wanted to include in the scientific congress I am organising for September 2020 in Sitges.

The 36th European and 12thInternational Peptide Symposium of which I am the Symposium Chairperson, will be the occasion where the approximately 800 delegates from around the world come together for a week in Sitges, sharing the most relevant scientific results in the field of peptides, from their preparation to biomedical uses and in the field of new materials.
Moreover, it is also undoubtedly a privileged balcony to discover Catalonia from, our research, culture and traditions, thus giving the aroma that I want the congress to have.

Rambla Science, new space of scientific information in Tarragona

Our ambassador Sergio Nasarre, director of the UNESCO Housing Chair of the Universitat Rovira i Virgili is the main promoter of the Rambla Science, a new centre of scientific information that will occupy the former headquarters of the Bank of Spain, an emblematic building in the city of Tarragona, located in the heart of the Rambla. The project will bring science to the general public and explain the work being undertaken in university laboratories and those of the Institut Català d’Investigacions Químiques. This will involve temporary exhibitions, workshops and working spaces. The main goal is the regeneration and attraction of scientific talent and to revitalise the city centre and attract tourism.

Reflected in the Science Gallery of Dublin, it will be the first centre of these characteristics in Spain and one of the few that exist in Europe. The rehabilitation works of the building will begin this year and the opening is planned for September 2021.

Famtrip and State Associative Workshop

Last May saw the holding of the State Associative Workshop and the familiarisation trip in which twenty associations from the Spanish state took part and four members of the Ambassadors Programme.

The professional conference, which was held in firaReus, had the participation of meeting spaces, professional organisers and eight Catalunya Convention Bureaux. The familiarisation and promotion trip enabled the members of the associations taking part to discover first-hand the offer of Tarragona and Reus on the one hand, and Girona and Lloret de Mar on the other.

MEET Ambassadors

The Espai Mas Marroch of El Celler de Can Roca was the venue chosen to hold the MEET Ambassadors day, the annual networking meeting for members of the Ambassadors Programme.
At this meeting the ambassadors present were able to discover the offer of each region at the hand of the Catalunya Convention Bureaux.

The networking dynamic took place in the gardens of Mas Marroch, the aim of which was for the ambassadors to get to know each other, and to be able to create synergies, mutual recognitions and opportunities for collaboration.

The day was attended by David Font, director of the Agència Catalana de Turisme and by the Councillor for Industry and Knowledge Àngels Chacón, who thanked the Ambassadors for their contribution to promoting our business tourism and the country.

Ambassadors Programme

Dear friends,

Summer has come, and with it we close a half-yearly period of which we would like to highlight two of the actions we have organised from the Catalunya Convention Bureau: the State Associative Workshop held in May at firaReus and the MEET Ambassadors day that we finally held on the 28th of June in the Espai Mas Marroch of El Celler de Can Roca.

We would like to announce that we are preparing the next gatherings that will have a Breakfast-Debate format, and which will take place during the second half of this year.

And as we reach this moment, it just remains for me to wish you a good summer and thank you for your work and commitment.

Sònia Serracarbassa
Director of the Catalunya Convention Bureau

Outstanding upcoming professional events in Catalonia:

Sport Business Symposium

Since the world endorsed the saying Mens sana in corpore sano, a well-known expression from Roman times, sport has become essential for the balance of body and soul. Today, sport is a professional activity in many disciplines and this has meant that it has to be organised appropriately. The Sport Business Symposium was established in this setting, bringing together the world of business with the world of sport. This year sees the tenth edition of the symposium and it will be taking place in the La Farga venue in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat on the 10th and 11th of May. The person behind this symposium is Vicente Javaloyes, member of the Ambassador Programme, who has dedicated his whole life to sport in different spheres, from simply the sport itself to management and teaching, and as a catalyst in attracting businesses to sport.
