What are workshops?

Workshops are marketing and promotion actions whose purpose is to facilitate business meetings between enterprises from the Catalan tourist industry and tour operators who work with or are interested in working with Catalonia.

Direct workshops are organised in countries of particular interest to the Catalan tourist industry. In such cases, Catalan businesses visit the country where the workshop is taking place and, aided and advised by the Catalan Tourist Board, hold meetings with local tour operators.

Reverse workshops take place in our country. In this case it is the tour operators that, invited by the Catalan Tourist Board, come to Catalonia to hold pre-arranged meetings with Catalan businesses. In most cases, such workshops are also accompanied by fam trips.

At other meetings abroad, organised by third parties, the Catalan Tourist Board takes part alone, as the sole interlocutor, presenting Catalonia as a destination and assessing whether to organise specific actions in the markets involved.

Workshops are amongst the most efficient marketing tools available to tourism industry companies and tour operators. They provide a direct, personalised sales channel and an excellent opportunity to establish a large number of business links in a short space of time and at very low cost.

Buy Catalunya

Buy Catalunya is the most important workshop organised by the Catalan Tourist Board. This inverse workshop, which takes place every two years, is multi-territory and multi-product in nature, as it serves to present the tourist attractions of Catalonia as a whole.

The objective of Buy Catalunya, which brings together around 200 Catalan enterprises and 150 tour operators working in 25 international markets, is to foster contacts between Catalan businesses and tour operators and other intermediates with end customers. The figures show that the formula employed, based on 15-minute interviews, is enormously successful: 2, 400 interviews per workshop.

Tour operators that attend Buy Catalunya also visit different sites in the country for themselves. For many, this is the first step towards subsequently programming the destination in their catalogues and on their websites.
