Carlos Grau, CEO of the Mobile World Capital Barcelona, leads campaign to promote business tourism in Catalonia
The CEO of the Mobile World Capital Barcelona Foundation, Carlos Grau, is leading the campaign launched by the Catalunya Convention Bureau (CCB) to promote Catalonia as an innovative business tourism destination.
“Catalonia, a destination that meets talent, innovation and life” is the title of the video in which Grau lists some of the attributes which have made Catalonia a powerful European innovation hub, as well as one of the main destinations for business tourism, professional events, and international meetings. The filming took place in the Pier 01 building, one of the most important projects of Barcelona Tech City.
According to the director of the Catalunya Convention Bureau, Sònia Serracarbassa, “the objective is to present Catalonia as a destination that is firmly committed to taking advantage of advances in technology as a catalyst for business tourism. Catalonia wants to attract professional events with a forward-looking spirit.
Catalonia Ambassador
The campaign is part of the communication strategy of the Catalonia Ambassadors Programme, promoted by the Catalunya Convention Bureau, which unites internationally recognised professionals who help promote Catalonia as a destination for congresses, meetings, and events. Serracarbassa highlights that Carlos Grau “is a benchmark and leader in digital transformation; a great ambassador of Catalonia and Barcelona”.
An Industrial Engineer from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, and IESE Management Programme, Carlos Grau has a long professional career in the field of communication and information technology, as well as in the development of digital businesses. For Grau, Catalonia is “a meeting point for business and innovation, where the balance between professional and personal becomes possible. Catalonia’s experience in technology and in major events leaves a legacy for the future business events that will follow”.
Barcelona, the epicentre of international technological congresses
The Catalan capital is an internationally leading city in future technologies, and a pole of attraction for congresses and trade fairs focused on technology and digital innovation, such as Mobile World Congress Barcelona, Integrated Systems Europe, Advanced Factories, or the Smart City Expo World Congress, among others.
According to data from the Barcelona Tourism Observatory, 1 out of every 4 congresses held in Barcelona in 2019 were in the technological-scientific field. Another important aspect is the legacy that the congresses leave in the city, with 48.9% of this legacy translating into advances in science or technology.
