The Pyrenean chief city of the district of Alt Urgell was one of the secondary Olympic venues of the 1992 Games and was awarded Sports Tourism Destination status in 2006. The Segre Olympic park hosts many of the main international whitewater competitions, as a result of which La Seu d’Urgell is certified as a centre for whitewater canoeing.

Cambrils

Cambrils was certified as a multi-sport destination specialised in athletics, football, sailing and cycling in 2013. It boasts municipal sports facilities of the highest calibre, which include the Palau Municipal d’Esports sports arena, the Municipal Stadium, the running track and sports area on the beach, as well as the Nautical Club. Furthermore, it is the training centre for several international cycling teams and has played host to several Catalan and Spanish championships in a range of sports disciplines.

L’Ametlla de Mar

L’Ametlla de Mar obtained the Sport Tourism Destination label in 2015 in the category Sea Sports, specifically in sailing and diving. Its 17 km of coastline and around 25 beaches, many of them distinguished with marks of environmental quality, along with the marinas of Calafat, Sant Jordi Marina and Yacht Club L’Ametlla de Mar were the key for this certification.

Amposta, a town in the Ebro region, was awarded the Sports Tourism Destination label of approval in 2012 in recognition of its excellence as a flat water rowing centre. The facilities at the Olympic Rowing Centre and the Yacht Club provide the finest conditions for both dry-land and on-water training. Moreover, many international rowing teams come to Amposta to train.
