The first race at the track was part of the Spanish Saloon Car Championship, held five days after the opening. The first F1 Grand Prix at the circuit took place on 29 September 1991, followed in 1992 by the MotoGP Grand Prix. Thanks to these grand prix events, held every year ever since, and a calendar of prestigious motor racing competitions, endurance races and national championships, the Circuit de Catalunya is now well-known as a race venue around the world.

In addition to the competitions held at the track, the Circuit de Catalunya hosts numerous other events, such as private and official training sessions, rounds of laps for racing fans, driving courses, incentive and training days, international presentations, etc. Furthermore, the fact that it stands in a privileged location means that many other options of considerable tourist appeal can also be offered.
