Accessible Tourism

Accessible tourism has become one of the main strategic lines pursued by the Catalan Tourist Board. Today, Catalonia is a reference destination for accessible tourism in Spain, with more than 1, 100 tourist resources providing facilities for people with disabilities, reduced mobility or special needs.

To this end, in recent years, Catalonia has worked for the suppression of architectural and communication barriers in order to convert the country’s main attractions into obstacle-free sites for people with disabilities of any kind. This is a social right for everyone, as well as generating benefits by highlighting quality tourism facilities.

The tool that the CTB uses to promote all integrated and adapted facilities in Catalonia is the website www.tourismforall.catalunya.com.

More than 20 destinations have been selected and are listed on this website as tangible accessible tourism options that provide accessible conditions for all visitors.

All these destinations share in common their provision of establishments with facilities for people with reduced mobility and/or sensory impairments (the deaf and hard of hearing, the blind and visually impaired) in accommodation, restaurants, museums, beaches, complementary activities…

By way of example, we can say that Catalonia has over 150 km of accessible greenways and footpaths. Others in the country that have positioned themselves in this segment include companies offering balloon trips, adventure activity centres (canoeing, diving, horse riding…) and sailing schools, such as that in L’Escala. With regard to museums, Catalonia boasts such outstanding accessible centres as Gaudí’s La Pedrera and the National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC).

The website also lists facilities, transport services and tourist products that, even though they do not form part of the score of destinations mentioned previously, nonetheless ensure good conditions as regards accessibility.
